Full Description

Farmstead still in use. Depicted on the OS 1st edition map (circa 1846) as a group of nine buildings, labelled as 'ruins', three of which are shown with attached enclosures including two which are L-plan, with a sluice, dam and lade shown to the northwest. By the OS 2nd edition map (circa 1888), only two of the earlier buildings are still shown while a large rectangular building has been added centrally, replacing a former L-plan with enclosure, along with two smaller buildings to the north and south. On the current OS edition map, these later buildings appear to survive, with the large central building having been extended. Only one of the earlier buildings survives roofed, while the others are shown as ruins, with the sluice and dam no longer shown, whilst the lade survives as a field drain. The farmstead was noted (recorded as Feature 05) during a walkover survey conducted by Alder Archaeology in October 2020, in advance of proposed woodland creation (NO25NE0079).
