Full Description
Newtyle village. Although the village has earlier origins, and was made a Burgh of Barony in 1682, the core of the present settlement is a planned village laid out on a gridiron plan by George Mathewson in 1832. The houses within the core of the village date predominantly to the 19th (mostly rubble-walled) and 20th (mostly harled) centuries. The village has seen later expansion on its northeast, southeast and west sides, outwith the earlier grid pattern.
