Full Description
Farmstead, still in use, depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. On the 1st edition OS map, the steading is depicted as S-plan with a further wing projecting diagonally from the north wing. The central part of the S-plan range has a probable horse mill attached to the west face, a farmhouse is depicted to the east, a garden to the south and another rectangular building to the south east. On the 2nd edition map, the building to the southeast has been removed, the steading has been extended eastwards over the area of the farmhouse, a new farmhouse has been added to the west within a wooded garden and a water pump is shown to the south. Today it appears that much of the steading survives, along with the later farmhouse. New buildings have been added to the north and east and the pump is shown as 'disused'. A standing building survey of the farm buildings was carried out by Clyde Archaeology in 2021 ahead of proposed demolition. Map evidence indicates buildings here in the mid 18th century, although no part of the current buildings can be conclusively dated to this time. The earliest remains identified were walls forming part of buildings documented in the mid 19th century. By 1900 these had been significantly modified with new additions, a process which largely removed the mid 19th century structures. Although the layout subsequently remained largely unchanged, further modifications were made through to the later 20th century. The buildings included barns, cart sheds, and a small bothy/office. Photographic recording of the outbuilding east of the house was carried out in 2021 ahead of proposed conversion.
