Full Description

Township still in use. On the 1st edition OS map of 1865 it is called 'Inverharity' and shown as nineteen roofed and two unroofed buildings, one of which has an unusual round barn, a disused rectangular sheepfold and two limekilns. By the 2nd edition OS map the limekilns and sheepfolds have been removed and two of the buildings have been modified, one at the north-west, into a U-shaped steading and the other centrally has been extended and is now called 'Glenisla House'. There are fourteen other buildings in addition to the two heavily modified ones. The 2006 map shows that one further building has been removed. The buildings to the south-east include a sawmill. At the north-west, the steading has an attached early 19th century horsemill. A watching brief in 2007 on foundation trenches for a new dwellinghouse north of Glenisla House recorded no evidence of earlier settlement. It showed the site to be on a natural terrace of boulders, although some boulders showed signs of drilling and blasting perhaps from 18th or 19th century road building. Although there were no visible traces of the limekiln, a grassed over and now tree covered raised area corresponds to the location shown on early plans.
