Full Description

Watching brief undertaken February 2008-August 2009 during installation of a large underground water tank in the immediate vicinity of two 19th century estate buildings, the old deer larder and former smithy.No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded. Building recording of the smithy was also carried out. The rear (northern) chamber retains a cobbled floor and evidence for a forge, including a surviving flue. The southern part originally comprised three separately accessed bothies separated by wooden partitions, subsequently formed into one.
