Full Description

Remains of shielings. At least ten huts sit on a river terrace above the haughland. They measure from 2.9 m to 7.3 m in length and between 1.6m to 2.5m in breadth, within heather covered, faced rubble footings up to 1.1 m in thickness. A grassy mound adjacent to one of the huts may be a midden. Another hut appear to be built on an earlier one. Irregular hollows amongst the huts may be tree-throws. Walkover survey was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in June/July 2015 to assess damage on the Mar Lodge estate resulting from flooding in the wake of storm Bertha but the remains were not located in the dense heather.
