Full Description
Remains of shielings comprising two groups of subrectangular huts, heather-covered, scattered along the edge of a terrace. The southern group (centred NO 0796 9483) comprises of five structures, two of which have outshots. The largest hut is divided into three compartments and overlies an earlier structure. Where visible the entrances are in the side. The other small group consists of two huts to the northwest, the larger of which measures 6.7m by 2.9m internally. Walkover survey was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in June/July 2015 to assess damage on the Mar Lodge estate resulting from flooding in the wake of storm Bertha but the remains were not located in the dense heather.
