Full Description

Remains of three small shielings or small enclosures recorded during walkover survey by Highland Archaeological Services in October 2021 ahead of proposed peatland restoration (NO08SE0016). The first appeared to be constructed within a larger, earlier structure, both of these with dry stone walls. The inner shieling measures 2.5 m by 2.3 m, the outer oval earlier structure 10 m by 5 m. The stone from the earlier structure may have been used to construct the shieling. Second, remains of a dry stone wall possibly associated with shielings to north and south: this enclosure wall is affected by erosion on the eastern side and is falling into the river. It measures 2 m by 8 m. The third feature is a small square structure (6 m by 5 m), possibly a small enclosure, also with drystone walls, and with an opening on the east side.
