Full Description
Depopulated settlement. Possibly the 'Dubrech' which appears on the John Farquharson 1703 map of of the forest of Mar. At the base of terrace below the main settlement (NO08NW0021) is a limekiln complete with lintel. An enclosure, 8m by 4m, with a longhouse at each end lies close to the head dyke. A separate group, including two longhouses, 12m by 4m and 17m by 5m, lie outside the head dyke. A substantial enclosed area is split into two by a less substantial partition wall. Walkover survey by Highland Archaeology Services along the river Dee in 2023 (NO08NW0055) included part of this site alongside the river and recorded a short section of tumbled drystone wall, not previously noted. This ran between NO 02988 88928 and NO 02971 88924, 1.2 m wide and up to 0.6 m high, running close to the river. Its function was unclear and it was isolated from other features.
