Full Description

Remains of a still, set at the back of a terrace on a steep hillside. It comprises a subrectangular hut with an opening at its east end, up to which a lade, 0.5m wide leads of the hill from a gully, with an overflow that runs out over the edge of the terrace. Excavation was carried out in March - April 2021 as part of the NTS 'Pioneering Spirit' partnership project with The Glenlivet Whisky. The still was made up of a sunken, roughly circular drystone structure with a stone-lined water lade on the west side. The structure contained a well-made flagstone floor, A small amount of burnt heather was recovered from the excavated soil.
