Full Description

Remains of a possible still, set into the base of the river terrace on the south bank of the burn about 500m west of Bynack Lodge. The walls are rubble-faced with an entrance in the southwest end. Excavation was undertaken by NTS Pioneering Spirit partnership project with Glenlivet Whisky in June 2021. The site comprised a low drystone structure built into the riverbank. Excavation uncovered a heavily collapsed structure mixed with river cobbles. Artefacts included late 18th to mid 19th century pottery and fragments of a clay pipe bowl.
