Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, built in the early 19th century, with a B-listed farmhouse. It is shown on the 1st edition OS map as a U-plan steading with a rectangular-plan range to the south, an L-plan farmhouse further to the south and a pond with a sluice to the north-west. The 2nd edition OS map shows some minor alterations, including altering the rectangular-plan range to L-plan, and a rectangular building added to the east. Current OS maps show the steading is partially roofless, with the remainder joined to the L-plan range to the south, and the pond has been infilled. The farmhouse, formerly B-listed, is two-storey and three-window, and is harled with no margins. A tripartite doorpiece has a rectangular five-circle fanlight. The original glazing remains, and there is a single-storey rubble-built back wing. Wellington Place was formerly named as Eastertown of Auchtygall. The name was changed by the occupier after the battle of Waterloo, when the occupier had a son born on the day of the battle. At one time, the property was in the ownership of The Governors of the Merchant Maiden Hospital, Edinburgh.
