Full Description
Remains of Boddam Castle, 15th-16th century, comprising the remains of a curtain wall, with entrance in the west, and the west gable of a building with a round-arched doorway with square window above. Three gun loops are also visible. The footings of a range of buildings remain within the enclosure against the north and south walls. The castle was originally the seat of the Keiths of Ludquharn, and may date from the early 16th century. A watching brief was carried out in January 2006 during construction of a new pathway to the castle. It recorded no archaeological features or finds. Site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey noted masonry in poor structural condition.
Period Notes
Built 16thC; pieces of cannon noted lying nearby in 1776.
