Full Description

Remains of a line of World War II anti-tank blocks lining the beach. Several hundred blocks are present in total, several of them incised with names and dates. They are supported by regularly spaced pillboxes. Site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey recorded blocks at several locations along this line: NK1186650264 the corners of two concrete anti tank cubes emerging from base of the dune at, NK1189250297 a block mostly buried in sand close to the coast edge, NK1195450459 the tops or bases of two blocks within the rocky coast edge, NK1195150528 a block mostly buried in the sand. A partially buried block near the mouth of the Cuttie Burn is inscribed with lettering JAMES ALEXANDER 17/10/40. A section of the line of blocks was included as part of a walkover survey in May 2023 by Environmental Resources Management in connection with the proposed Salamander Offshore Wind Farm (NK14NW0120).
