Full Description
Remains of a World War II Pillbox of Type 24 construction. It is third in a line of eight from Craigewan to Scotstown beach. Originally recorded as at NK 11721 4919, nothing was noted at this location during site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. However, a partially exposed slab of concrete, 4 m long, was recorded at NK1164149071. This appeared to be the back edge of a pillbox roof more or less in situ but tipped over. The pillbox could was not identified during site visit in May 2023 as part of a walkover survey by Environmental Resources Management (NK14NW0120) in connection with the proposed Salamander Offshore Wind Farm: it was probably temporarily covered by dunes following winter storms.
