Full Description

House, dating from the 18th century, originally part of the planned Lonmay House. James Fraser of Lonmay commissioned William Adam to design the house, and a design was produced circa 1726, on a similar but less grand layout to Haddo House, with a plain three-storey block, short quadrants and two-storey pavilions, one to contain the brewhouse and bakehouse, the other the kitchen. James Fraser died in 1729 and the central block was never built once the pavilions were completed. Only this, the western pavilion remains. The eastern is shown on the OS 1st edition map but not the 2nd edition. The remaining pavilion is of two storeys, harled with red sandstone margins, and a piend roof with central chimney. The first floor taller than ground floor. There is a rear addition and internal reconstruction took place in 1967.
