Full Description
Remains of Kinmundy House, built on the site of an earlier manor. No further information on manor. The present house stands in an area of designed landscape. The estate of Kinmundy was purchased in 1723 by James Ferguson who built the mansion in 1736. It was enlarged in 1820. The 2nd edition OS map of 1888 shows a pheasantry to the north of the house, the home farm to the west, and a curling pond to the southwest. A large walled garden lies on front of the house. The house itself was a U-shaped structure open to the northwest with outbuildings to the northeast and northwest. Now the landscape remains fairly similar thought the walled garden has now gone and a large area of woodland to the north of the house has been removed - it was demolished in the early 1950s after the death of Mrs Georgina Ferguson. The curling pond is now a pond within the woodland. Of the house itself only the north wing survives. The south central area has gone and the west wing is disused.
