Full Description
The remains of a building stands circa 200 m to the east of Upper Savock Cottages. On the OS 1st edition map the structure is visible as an L-shaped building with an attached enclosure to the south, and a smaller single building to the east. Both are still depicted on the 2nd edition but the enclosure has been reduced in size. Now all are roofless and in ruins. Field survey by CFA Archaeology in 2012 ahead of proposed overhead line work recorded the remains. The cottage is unroofed but eth southwest gable survives to full height (circa 4 m) with a red brick chimney and the northeast gable almost to full height. Apart form the chimney the construction is of stone and mortar with some harl visible on the southern wall. At the northeast is a more recent concrete-block extension.TO the north of the cottage are the remains of a square building, the remains of dressed stone surviving to a maximum height of 1 m.
