Full Description

Harbour, built in the late 19th Century (between 1875 and 1880) by the Earl of Erroll. It failed to attract the herring industry to the extent expected as it was tidal and almost dry at low tide, and was used mostly by small boats catching white fish and shell fish. It is a harbour of enclosure, with two L-plan piers enclosing a basin. This is sub-divided by two straight piers, giving a main basin and a stilling basin. All the works are in concrete. Nearby are net drying poles, and an upturned boat used as a store in a classic manner.
