Full Description

A 19th century fishery and ice house surviving as a low single storey rubble building with tall chimney stacks and a single storey wood store. There is a net boiling tub with a tripod with net drying poles nearby. These were the headquarters of an old-established salmon fishery. The salmon station or house along with an ice house are depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. A standing building survey was carried out by MAS in 2010 in advance of proposed renovation of the buildings. The ice house is a single storey semi-subterranean structure circa 9.15m long with stone walls and an ached roof of handmade bricks, with a tarred black wooden shed above. The bothy was originally L-shaped but a wing had been added to form a U-shape. It has rubble stone walls and slate roof, but had largely been rebuilt internally. Site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey noted that is has been converted to residential use.
