Full Description

Farmstead and mill complex, dating to the early 19th Century. The mill comprises a small 2-storey rubble range with a disproportionately large kiln vent. It is dated 1820, but part at tower level with a wheel is evidently older, stepped in slope with 1820 work tusked at junction for lower part to be raised later. There are the remains of a start and awe wheel. The mill is depicted as a corn mill on the 1st edition OS map of 1867 and is U-shaped in plan with open court to the east. A T-shaped building and an L-shaped building lie to its west. A lade leads from the river to the southwest. The farmstead lies to its northwest. This is U-shaped in plan with an open court to the south. A building lies on the south side of the court. An L-shaped building is attached to the south of the eastern side and the house is on the west side of the western range. Gardens and orchards lie to the east and west of the farm. By the 2nd edition OS map of 1888 the mill has been extended with the addition of another range on its eastern side, now forming a rectangular shape with a central open court. The other buildings remain similar, with the addition of another building to the northeast of the mill. Today only part of the mill building survives. Of the two buildings to its west only one now survives in a ruined state. The farmstead has been altered with the L-shaped building now gone and the court built over with later buildings.
