Full Description
Former lifeboat house depicted on the OS 2nd edition and later maps. Built sometime in the 1880s or slightly earlier, this building continued to be the lifeboat station until its closure in 1961 when the lifeboat was relocated to Peterhead. Newburgh had a lifeboat first stationed in the village in 1828, but the location of where the boat was based is unclear. This later building was recorded during a site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. Now disused with the blocked windows and slipway doors shut with wooden batons. Local knowledge suggested it had been disused for circa 10 years. The concrete slipway has been undermined by erosion and older mortar foundations were noted beneath the slipway.
