Full Description
Shell midden recorded during site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. It measures at least 10 m by 20m and burnt and fragmented mussel, frequent charcoal and frequent fire- cracked stone are exposed in upcast from rabbit burrows across the mound. A fragment of rotary quern was also present in the area. The midden composition and character look similar to the 3rd-10th century AD shell middens, approximately 1 km north, on the east bank of the Ythan estuary excavated by Aberdeen University in 2010 and 2014 (MK02NW0046).
