Full Description

Remains of a pumping station. The OS 2nd edition map shows three pumps, one in a rectangular enclosure. A boat house is also depicted. The 5th edition shows two parallel building, one the former boat house (or on the same site), annotated as Pump House. Site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey recorded a concrete box-like structure, measuring 1 m by 2 m, its seaward side collapsed, on the lower part of the steep slope of bay at NK0379228192. It had possibly been roofed. A pumping station was built in Perthudden Bay in circa the 1890s to provide freshwater to the village of Collieston. The pumping station closed circa 1990s. This pump may be associated with the pumping station. At NK0378628168 was a platform circa 11 m square with slight hints of an earthwork foundation. At NK0381028165 is the remains of a square concrete cistern, 1.5 m across.
