Full Description

Remains of a castle, built in 17th Century, some time before 1650 - a skew-stone from the east gable is dated 1651. The castle still stands to roof height and is constructed of rubble masonry. The main house is a low 2-storey and attic with corbelled angle turrets southwest and southeast and a square tower with corbelled diagonal angle windows, cable-moulded door having pedimented panels above, at northwest with corbelled stair turret in re-entrant angle, an unusual and distinctive detail. Northwest and northeast wings low with entrance arching between forming forecourt, now greatly ruined, probably circa 1670. Adjacent to the northwest side are the remains of several buildings, one of which stands to roof height. They appear to be of later date, and may have been farm buildings. About 47m west-southwest of the castle are the remains of a dovecot constructed of rubble masonry. The south wall contains the remains of several nesting boxes. The north and east walls are reduced to almost ground level. It may have been associated with the castle. A wall extending from the southwest corner of the castle to the dovecot appear to be contemporary with them.
