Full Description
Remains of a stone and earth bank, and stone wall. traced across part of the Aden Estate. Three locations were investigated by Cameron Archaeology in 2021 to ascertain a date for the feature. Near the eastern end, Trench 20 recorded a bank 0.65m high and circa 3m wide, but no dating evidence was recovered. A shallow water channel on the north side was not thought to be archaeological. To the southwest, Trench 22 recorded a bank of large stones 0.6m wide with small stones banked up on the south face. Further west, Trench 24 recorded four steps built into the north face of the wall, the wall here well faced on the north side. Drill marks on some of the stones suggest this part of the constructed was 19th century or later. Probably the boundary depicted on the OS 1st edition map.
