Full Description
Cup-marked stone, recorded by Cameron Archaeology in 2017 during excavation within the Hareshowe field (NJ94NE0180). There is a single cup-mark on the top of the large earthfast or glacial boulder, with various later chisel marks and splits, indicating attempts to move it in the 19th and 20th centuries. In June-July 2019 excavations by Cameron Archaeology extended the previous years 2018 trench with a trench 5.5m wide to the cup-marked boulder and a trench excavated around the stone. The stone does not appear to be related to the excavated structure, believed to be prehistoric, in the 2019 trench to the east-northeast. Trenches around the base and chisel marks on the stone revealed that several 19th and 20th-century attempts had been made to remove it.
