Full Description

Church, still in ecclesiastical use, built by Mackenzie and Matthews in 1851 in an Early English style, with alterations by Bucknall and Comper in 1896. It is a harled building with granite margins, and has a five-bay aisleless nave with a porch and bellcote, a lower chancel with an organ chamber that has been extended and refurnished, internal tracery to the east window, a refurnished chancel and an 1851 Whitechapel ball. The bones of John Graham of Claverhouse Viscount Dundee were interred in the chancel by Dean Ranken. A small trench was excavated on the south side of the church in September 2016 as part of the Book of Deer Project. This uncovered an area of roughly laid medium angular and rounded boulders. It was too irregular to be a surface and it is suggested that the land here was waterlogged and the stone laid to help prevent the area around the church from flooding.
