Full Description

Memorial stone, erected by Alexander Gordon Esq of Ellon Castle in 1862, and shown on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. The stone was reported in the Press and Journal (26/01/194) that it dug up in the early 1980s when the site at Castle Park was being developed and re-erected on a concrete slab near where it was found. It is inscribed 'In Memoria the Brothers and Sisters meet again at home advent 1862. Deo Gratias'. The date on the stone is surmounted by two ornate crosses with a carved serpent or dragon at its base. The stone is referenced in the OS Name Book OS1/1/29 as 'A large granite stone bearing the following inscription viz. In memoria the Brothers and Sisters meet again at home Advent 1862. Deogratias. This stone was erected by Alexander Gordon Esq. of Ellon Castle in the year 1862'.
