Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on the 1st edition OS map. It shows a U-plan range of steadings with an attached rectangular building, a L-shaped building and two rectangular buildings. By the time of the 2nd edition map the steadings had become one large rectangular block of buildings, the L-shaped building had gone and a new farmhouse (a rectangular building) had been built. Further alterations and additions have since taken place. Standing building survey was carried out by Murray Archaeological Services in July 2021 prior to the demolition of farm buildings. The original farmhouse, of rubble stone construction, lay south of the steading range, but was later converted for use as cart bays and a poultry house. An extension provided a bothy in use by as accommodation until circa 1970. The steading was also constructed of rubble stone, with later concrete blockwork additions. It included stables, threshing mill, and cattle byre. Two buildings south of the original house dated from the 1960s/1970s. East of the steading was a rectangular Nissen hut, evident on a 1950s aerial photograph, and which most recently was in use as a wood shed. Two large buildings to the west are also 20th century in date.
