Full Description
Three rubbing stones still in use, they are located at NJ 9676 2322, NJ 9678 2284 and NJ 9646 2332. One of the cattle-rubbing stones is situated in an arable field 175m north of the farmhouse at Overhill. The stone is not depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map indicating that it was probably set up relatively recently. Survey of the southernmost stone was carried out in 2012 by Headland Archaeology ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. The stone stood on a small mound, measures 1.05m by up to 0.6m and stands 1.5m tall. No markings or signs of working are visible. It was subsequently relocated a short distance to the northeast.
