Full Description

Farmstead, depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. The 1st edition map shows a group of at least 5 rectangular buildings, including a long range on the west side, and two enclosures the larger, to the east, with a small rectangular building at its east end. By the time of the 2nd edition map only two buildings and the enclosures remained. These two cottages were still in use in 2012. The remains of the farmstead lay within the area subject to archaeological evalution by MAS in 2012 in advance of a proposed new academy. Alhough none of the trenches included the area of the farmstead, an area of disturbed ground recorded in trench 2 may have derived from clearance of the Fechil farm buildings in the late 19th century.
