Full Description

Church, graveyard and site of earlier church. A church here was granted to Aberdeen Cathedral by David II in 1361, while the current church was built in the late 18th century with later additions and alterations. It is a small, simple building with little architectural detailing. It is aligned roughly east-west and has harled, rubble walls and a slate roof. There are narrow strips of granite stone around the windows and doors. The church is rectangular on plan, with a small, gabled porch and a lean-to vestry at the west end. There is a birdcage bellcote at the west gable. The interior has original ceiling with Adamesque centrepiece. It originally had a pulpit in centre of north wall and horseshoe gallery, however now it has an east pulpit and west gallery: 2-light Gothic tracery inserted in windows at same time. There is a ladle dated LK 1616. The churchyard is a rubble built enclosure with plain granite ashlar gatepiers. The graveyard contains a few 18th century stones, some table tombs, mostly Victorian and modern.
