Farmstead depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition OS map shows, on the south side of the road, a U-plan steading with an attached horsemill on the east side, with an L-plan building to the west: at that time the farmstead was named Murcar. By the time of the 2nd edition OS map, on which it is named Findlay Farm, many if not all of the original buildings had been replaced. South of the road, the 2nd OS map edition shows an L-plan range (possibly part of the original steading) to the southwest of which is a new L-plan building. North of the road is a large U-plan steading open to the south and with an attached horsemill on the east side. A standing building survey was carried out in September 2008 by AAA Archaeological Unit as part of a programme of archaeological works ahead of proposed development (see also NJ91SE0099). The survey recorded at least three phases of development of the buildings. Initially these comprised cottages and an open-sided barn, the cottage and other buildings later converted to a dairy, with hay storage buildings added in the late 20th century. The remining steading buildings were finally demolished in 2025.
