Full Description
In November 2008, SUAT carried out a walkover survey at the mouth of Blackdog Burn. Seven concrete blocks dating from WW2 were discovered partially buried in the sand. These defences were probably intended to be used as tank traps. It was noted that sharp granite stones had been set into the top side of each block. Following this, SUAT undertook a watching brief over trenches which were cut to re-align Blackdog Burn. The watching brief revealed that three concrete blocks dating from World War II were lying on their sides in the Blackdog Burn channel. One of these blocks had not been identified in the previous walkover survey. Some distance to the south, a further block was discovered when excavating a new route for Blackdog Burn. This block was found to be in line with the other blocks discovered in the preceding walkover survey. These blocks are part of a line of anti-invasion defences which extended from Foveran to Blackdog Links (see also NJ91SE0003). Site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey recorded a stretch of over 22 anti-tank cubes and an upside down pillbox south of the mouth of the Blackdog Burn.
