Full Description
Statue of Hygeia, erected in 1883 made by Arthur Taylor, sculptor, and designed by John Cassidy of Manchester. It is a dressed white-grey granite statue of Hygeia made up of a Corinthian column with a fluted shaft surmounted by statue of Hygeia holding a snake and drinking from a cup. The cruciform base that has a pink granite recumbent lion to each arm and the chamfered panelled plinth is inscribed 'THIS PARK WAS PRESENTED BY ELIZABETH CROMBIE DUTHIE TO THE CITY OF ABERDEEN, AND WAS OPENED BY H.R.H. PRINCESS BEATRICE ON 27TH SEPTEMBER 1883'. Also known as the Duthie Statue.
