Full Description
Church, designed by Jenkins and Marr 1882, in Gothic style on a cruciform plan with a tall square tower and spire at the southeast angle. The hall to the rear was added in 1910 and hall to the southwest added circa 1982. Built of tooled, squared and coursed granite with ashlar dressings, with a Latin cross apex finial to the nave gables. Windows are predominantly pointed arched, with geometrical traceried leaded windows, with chamfered rybats and raked cills. There is a glazed arrowslit to the gable apex. Aisles and chancel are buttressed, with angle buttresses on the tower. The entrance elevation has a central gable with the tower to the left and single bay to the right, the gabled doorpiece with Latin cross apex finial. The tower is of 5 stages, the second stage with traceried lancet windows, the third stage with glazed quatrefoil opening, the fourth stage bellcote. The octagonal spire has a clock set within a gablet at the base flanked by pinnacles. The attached hall to the northwest is stylistically similar to the church. The interior is characterised by Gothic detailing, including original timber pews with quatrefoil detail. There has been some 20th century remodelling. The church has a variety of stained glass windows, the oldest, to the west, donated in 1892. A granite war memorial was installed in 1921 recording the names and military units of those from the parish killed in World War I. A later memorial commemorates the fallen of World War II.
