Pond, now reinstated, which formed part of Duthie Park (NJ90SW0989) when it was opened in 1883. The pond was infilled in the 1920s, and the steps which led down to the pond from the former terraced walkway were thought to have been removed in the 1960s. The site of the pond is now partially grassed and partially under the car park. A trial trenching evaluation carried out by Cameron Archaeology in June 2010 recorded a set of six well-preserved concrete steps which formed one flight of the steps, although the edging for the steps was poorly preserved. It is likely that the top flight of steps also survives below ground. The evaluation showed the pond structure had been removed, possibly in the 1920s. Two wedge shaped stones recovered may have been part of the original edging or pathways. Glass bottles in the fill suggest infilling prior to the mid 20th century. A subsequent watching brief by Cameron Archaeology during creation of new steps and replacement pond recorded a further 18 steps to the north of those found in 2010; these were backfilled before construction of the new steps.
