Full Description
House and grounds depicted on historic OS maps, the house built originally circa 1862, extensively altered and extended by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie in 1897. It is 2-storey, roughly rectangular in plan with a curved single-storey Ionic portico at the south elevation and several deep-set pediments at the wallhead. There is an advanced single storey entrance porch to the east elevation. Built of Aberdeen bond granite with a base course, a grey slate roof, coped ridge and tall wallhead chimney stacks with decorative panels. Inside there is a timber panelled hall, timber staircase with decorative balusters and newel posts and a round arched screen with fluted Ionic timber columns. The house and garden depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, named Inchgarth. To the southwest of the house is a curved rubble retaining wall forming a garden terrace, with a balustrade and a central set of steps. To the northeast of the house is a T-plan building. Standing building survey of Inchgarth House was carried out by Cameron Archaeology om March 2015. Standing building survey of Inchgarth steading and lodge was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in May 2017.
