Full Description

Hut circle within trees and some gorse on the north-west side of Tullos Hill. This stone and earthen bank is the remains of a prehistoric building. It is oval in shape with a possible entrance on the south-west side. A ditch 1.5m wide, may be associated with this feature, which runs for 25m in a north- north west direction. This is one of 150 possible new sites discovered during a survey in the spring of 2004 (NJ90SE0586). Community excavation directed by CFA was carried out in July 2010 confirmed this to be a prehistoric hut circle. A single piece of pottery, of possible Bronze Age date, and worked flints were the only artefacts recovered. A second phase of community excavation directed by CFA in August - September 2012 revealed the heavily eroded outer wall and an internal ring-ditch. A total of 50 pottery sherds dating from the Middle Bronze Age and several worked lithics were recovered from the ring ditch.
