Full Description
Shipbuilding yard of John Lewis and Sons Ltd depicted on the OS 25 inch map revised 1923, including a travelling crane and slipway. The company was established in 1907 and the first ship was constructed in 1917. Lewis constructed coasters and drifters but later concentrated on cargo vessels. During the Second World War Lewis built more than 30 vessels including minesweeper trawlers. In 1972 John Lewis and Sons Ltd was taken over by the Wood Group, which constructed a new 1600-ton slipway in 1976.
