Full Description
Townhouse, in residential use, built some time between 1789 and 1821. It is a three-storey, two-bay townhouse incorporating a secondary entrance to the Elim Pentecostal Church at the ground floor left. The building is constructed from grey granite ashlar with an eaves band and multi-pane timber sash and case windows with glazed margins at the first and second floor tripartite windows. The grey slate roof has a red brick stack to the left gable with a granite ashlar facing, an ashlar skew, clay cans and recessed cast-iron rainwater goods. The recessed doorway has a six-panel timber door, narrow glazed sidelights and an astragalled cast-iron fanlight above. There is a segmental-arched entrance to the left (belonging to adjacent Elim Pentecostal Church), tripartite openings with stone mullions to the right bay at the first and second floors and decorative cast-iron balconies at the first-floor windows. The rear west elevation is five-storey with irregular fenestration. A plaque on the front wall commemorates the artist William Dyce (1806-1864) who was born in the house. He was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and Mariscal College, and was elected as an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1835.
