Full Description
Townhouse, in residential use, built some time between 1789 and 1821 (when it appears on John Wood's map). It is a three-storey and attic, three-bay townhouse with a Classical doorpiece, and is constructed using grey granite ashlar with an eaves band, multi-pane timber sash and case windows with glazed margins at the first floor. The grey slate roof has a pair of tripartite, canted piended dormers, a red brick stack to the left gable with granite ashlar facing, an ashlar skew, clay cans and recessed cast-iron rainwater goods. The recessed doorway to the central bay has a timber panelled door and cast-iron fanlight above flanked by Tuscan style columns and with tall, narrow glazed openings to the left and right within the doorway recess and windows to the outer bays. There are cast-iron plant railings at the second storey windows. To the west is a five-storey to rear elevation with irregular fenestration. On the front wall is a commemorative plaque to the lawyer and historian William Kennedy (1758-1836) who lived here, and who is principally remembered as author of the two-volume Annals of Aberdeen.
