Full Description
War memorial commemorating men of the C and E Morton Ltd Rosemount Provision Works who were killed during the First World War. It previously stood outside the works (NJ90NW0141) where it was unveiled on 29 May 1920 on the outside wall of the factory. The factory was demolished after a fire in 1937. The memorial, by Henry Hutcheon Ltd, is a Rubislaw granite monolith on a rough hewn plinth. Above the inscription is an arched console with floral enrichments, the dates 1914-1919 and crossed sword and rifle. Below is an inscription: 'C AND E MORTON LTD. THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY THE DIRECTORS AND EMPLOYEES TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS FACTORY WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR'. Below the list of 12 names is a further inscription: 78 EMPLOYEES FROM THIS FACTORY SERVED WITH HM FORCES DURING THE WAR. An inscription on the plinth records its relocation to Trinity Cemetery (NJ90NW1246): THIS MEMORIAL HAS BEEN RE-ERECTED BY THE BRITISH LEGION, ABERDEEN.
