Full Description
Statue of the fifth and last Duke of Gordon (1770-1836), who was the first colonel of the 92nd Gordon Highlanders. It was designed by London sculptor Thomas Campbell, and carved by MacDonald Field and Co 1842. It originally stood in front of the Mercat Cross in Castlegate, but was taken down in 1950 and re-erected on its present site in 1952. The statue was cut by hand from a 20 ton block of granite from the Dancing Cairns quarry granite at the yard of Macdinald and Leslie.
