Full Description

Remains of a canalised water course depicted on OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, running from the southeast corner of the grounds of Danestone House (NJ90NW0721). Its function is not clear: it may relate to the small stream that runs along the east side if the Danestone Policy wall, and have been part of the designed landscape of Danestone House. Photographic recording was carried out by Headland Archaeology in September 2002 ahead of the Third Don Crossing. At the point where this is crossed by the new road the watercourse was 1.22m wide and 1.26m deep internally, formed by a granite drystone dyke on the north side and a cement bonded granite wall to the south.
