Stone walls recorded in a watching brief carried out by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit between August 2009 and November 2010 on groundworks/resurfacing works across 10 streets associated with the Green Townscape Heritage Initiative. Several features were encountered at the south end of Exchange Street. On a northwest - southeast alignment was a granite stone wall bonded with mortar and with occasional blocks of sandstone. This ran for 21.2m with a right angle turn at its northern extent. A boundary wall is shown at this location on the OS 1st edition map. The use of sandstone suggests incorporation of building material from an earlier (Medieval) building in the area. Three internal boundary walls of granite stones headed northeast from the main wall. On the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps Exchange Street was narrower at the south end where these features were observed; it had been widened to its present extent by 1925. The remains were left in place beneath the new road surface.
