Full Description

Features recorded by a watching brief carried out by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit between August 2009 and November 2010 on groundworks/resurfacing works across 10 streets associated with the Green Townscape Heritage Initiative. A number of features were encountered in Rennie's Wynd including an area of laid fieldstone cobbles, probably the remains of a cobbled courtyard, and a threshold leading from this. Northwest of the courtyard was a semi-circular brick-built feature, probably part of a circular chimney base structure. Immediately northwest was a brick wall foundation aligned northwest-southeast, and another foundation of stone construction. Two areas of granite setts or cassies were located outside 2-18 Rennie's Court. The features were left in situ. The walls and setts probably belonged to buildings shown on the OS 1st edition map.
