Full Description

World War II air raid shelter. Building survey was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in March 2012 ahead of proposed demolition. The shelter measures 3.6m by 7.25m the walls 1.9m high. Internally the main room is 2.1m square. Two windows in the north wall are probably not original although fittings for shutters survive internally. The north wall of the shelter is constructed from concrete blocks, the remainder of the walls and roof constructed of concrete poured into wooden shuttering. The outer western room formed an inner corridor along the west side of the structure, the wall between it and the main room 0.29m thick. No evidence of benches or other fittings remains apart from one light fitting of bakelite which may have been original.
