Full Description

Monument designed by Harry Wilson, 1926, a tomb chest with recumbent bronze, and subsidiary figure groups. It stands outside Kings College (NJ90NW0018). Bishop Elphinstone, founder of the University was buried in the Chapel in 1514. This monument, commissioned in 1914, is a substitute for the original monument which disappeared in the reformation. It was initially placed inside the chapel, but was moved to its present location in 1946 after it proved too large for the chapel.
